You can use remote evaluation from the Python, PHP and Java SDKs. Send targeting attributes to your evaluation endpoint and use the returned features instead of loading the full feature payload into the calling SDK. Each SDK has its own configuration, so use the option for your language.
Choose the SDK path
- Python supports remote evaluation in synchronous and asynchronous clients through
remote_eval. - PHP uses
remoteEvalwithinitialize, a client key and your proxy URL. - Java supports
remoteEval(true)onGrowthBookClientandGBContext. LeaverefreshStrategyunset for the basic configuration.
Configure the evaluation backend
Use a self-hosted proxy or edge endpoint, including when your GrowthBook account runs in Cloud. These remote modes reject a local decryption key or sticky-bucket service.
Remote evaluation adds a network dependency and infrastructure to maintain. Local evaluation remains the usual choice for an application running on a trusted backend.
Getting started
Enable remote evaluation in your SDK Connection settings, then configure your endpoint and client key in the SDK. Test a known flag with the targeting attributes your application sends. Follow the remote evaluation setup guide.
